"Sansa Airlines and Travel Air have daily service to
Nosara Airport. It's a short, 10-minute drive to my
house."
"The new Tempisque bridge. The opening of this
bridge cuts the driving time from San Jose to Nosara
from 6-8 hours to 4-5 hours. "
"The map below is of Costa Rica. No, Costa Rica is NOT an island! The Capital, San Jose, is located in the
center of the country. The International airport is located about ten minutes west of the city. The drive to Nosara
will take about four to five hours depending on traffic.
Directions to Nosara: Head west from the airport on the Pan Americam Highway towards Punteranas. Continue past the exit for
Punteranas towards Liberia. About 45 minutes later look for the left exit to the new Tempisque bridge . About 20 minutes later you will
reach the new bridge. Continue on 20 more minutes to a stop sign. Turn right, following the signs to Nicoya. This is the last large town
before Nosara, so stock up on gas and other necessities. Drive right through Nicoya and follow signs to Samara and Garza. Just outside of
Nicoya you will come to a T in the road with a stop sign. Turn right. About 30 minutes later you will climb a hill with a gas station on your
left. Just past the gas station the road continues left to Samara with a gravel road forking off to the right. Take the gravel road to the right!
From here on it is gravel with bumps, hills, turns, people, and animals. Be careful and slow down a bit. You will come to a T in the road.
Turn right towards Garza and Nosara. You will pass through the small fishing town of Garza with the bay on your left. This is where many
of the fishing charters are based. About 10 minutes later, you will pass through the small town of Esperanza. About 2-3 minutes past
Eperanza you will see a blue and white market on the right with Villas Esperanza on the left. There are five gates. Turn left into the last
one. Drive all the way to the end of the driveway and up the hill to the left. My house is up on the hill. Time for a welcome cerveza!! The
main surfing beach at Playa Guiones is another minute up the road. There are several ways to reach the beach, so just follow the signs.
Time for a surf!"

"Slow down! Driving on gravel roads can be hazardous to your surfboards! These boards lived to surf another day!"
"The map below shows the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica. The town of Nosara and the beach at Playa Guiones are located in
the lower section of the map. The bridge opened in April, which replaced the Tempisque ferry on highway 18. That has reduced
the drive from San Jose to Nosara to about four hours."
